According to the latest data released by Federacciai, the Italian association of steel producers, steel production in Italy in June this year fell by 7.9 percent year on year to 1.916 million tons. However, steel production in June was higher than in March, April and May this year, as a result of the easing of the Covid-19 lockdown in May. In the first six months of this year, steel production in Italy amounted to 10.182 million tons, down 18.8 percent from the same period last year.
In June, production of long products remained higher than production of flat products, at 1.008 million tonnes, down 10.0% from last year. Apartment production in June totaled 908,000 tons, down 20.4% year on year. In the first half of this year, the production of long products amounted to 5.202 million tons, which is 20.5 percent lower compared to the same period last year, while the production of apartments amounted to 4.945 million tons, which is 22.1 percent less than last year.
