In July 2020, crude steel production in India fell by 24.6% to 7.150 million tons (MT). In its latest report, the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reported that the country produced 9.485 million tonnes of steel in the same month of 2019.
According to the data, the world steel production in the reporting month also declined.
“Global crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to worldsteel was 152.694 million tonnes in July 2020, down 2.5% from 156.679 million tonnes in July 2019.
“Due to the ongoing difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, many of this month’s numbers are estimates that could be revised with a production update next month,” it said.
According to worldsteel, in July 2020, China registered a 9.1% y /y increase in steel production, amounting to 93.359 million tons.
In July 2020, the United States produced 5.241 million tonnes of steel, down 29.4% from July 2019, when it produced 7.419 million tonnes of steel.
Japan produced 6.049 million tonnes of steel in July 2020, down 27.9% from 8.387 million tonnes in July 2019. Steel production in South Korea for the month was 5.526 million tonnes, down 8.3% from 6.026 million tonnes in July 2019.
It also states that “for the EU as a whole, steel production in July 2020 is estimated at 9.817 million tonnes, which is 24.4 percent less than 12.989 tonnes in July 2019.”
It is estimated that in July 2020, production in the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) countries will be 8.091 million tons, which is 5.8% less than 8.588 million tons in July 2019.
