ArcelorMittal Italia CEO Ms. Lucia Morselli said last week that the company intends to fulfill the agreement it signed with the Italian government on March 4 to restart the former Italian steelmaker Ilva. In a televised interview, Ms Morselli said: “The climate is good at the meeting between the company and the authorities earlier this week. A state that becomes a shareholder in a steel plant can be done in the presence of ArcelorMittal, and this will support the restart of the plant. ”
This is in response to recent statements by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Minister of Economic Development Stefano Patuanelli that ArcelorMittal’s latest industrial plan is unacceptable for Ilva. These comments prompted speculation that the steel plant could be nationalized through the state financial authority Invitalia.
