International reserves of Ukraine as of September 29 amounted to $ 26.5 billion. The head of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine Bogdan Danylyshyn announced this on Facebook. “The volume of international reserves, which as of 09/29/2020 amounted to $ 26.5 billion, is sufficient to stabilize excessive fluctuations in the foreign exchange market,” Danylyshyn said.
According to the NBU, as of September 1, 2020, Ukraine’s international reserves amounted to more than $ 29 billion. Thus, within a month, international reserves decreased by $ 2.6 billion, or almost 10%. The reduction in international reserves was noted for the first time in the last four months.
In September, the NBU had to sell foreign currency to slow the devaluation of the hryvnia against the US dollar. Despite the efforts of the regulator, in a month and a half, the national currency lost more than hryvnia against the dollar.
