Ukraine increased steel production by 5.9% – up to 1.6 million tons

Following the results of the work of metallurgical enterprises in October 2020, Ukraine increased steel production by 5.9% compared to the same period in 2019 – up to 1.653 million tons, moving from 13th to 14th place in the ranking of 64 countries – the world’s major manufacturers of these products, compiled by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).

In October, an increase in steel production by October 2019 was recorded in most of the top ten countries, except for Japan, the United States and South Korea.

The top ten steel-producing countries in October are as follows: China (92.202 million tons, an increase of 12.7%), India (9.058 million tons, an increase of 0.9%), Japan (7.2 million tons, a drop by 11.7%), the USA (6.143 million tons, a fall of 15.3%), Russia (6.050 million tons, plus 4.3%), South Korea (5.859 million tons, minus 1.8% ), Germany (3.417 million tons, plus 3.1%), Vietnam (3.372 million tons, an increase of 111.5%), Turkey (3.208 million tons, an increase of 19.4%) and Brazil (2.784 million tons , an increase of 3.5%).

This is followed by Iran (2.660 million tons, an increase of 27.9%), Italy (2.119 million tons, a 4.6% drop), Taiwan (PRC, 1.660 million tons, a decrease of 3.1%), Ukraine (1.653 million tons, an increase of 5.9%) and Mexico (1.470 million tons, plus 1.1%).

In October, 64 countries produced 161.890 million tons of steel, which is 7% more than in October 2019.

For 10 months of this year, the top ten steel-producing countries looks like this: China (873.933 million tons, an increase of 5.5%), India (79.684 million tons, “minus” 14.4%), Japan (68.407 million tons, a decrease by 18.4%), the USA (59.872 million tons, “minus” 18.4%), Russia (59.327 million tons, down 0.8%), South Korea (55.039 million tons, a drop of 7.7%) , Germany (29.144 million tons, minus 13.9%), Turkey (29.140 million tons, plus 4.2%), Brazil (25.131 million tons, down 8.5%) and Vietnam (21.898 million tons , an increase of 28.8%).

This is followed by Iran (23.794 million tons, an increase of 12.6%), Taiwan (China, 17.325 million tons, “minus” 6.9%), Ukraine (16.977 million tons, “minus” 5.5%), Italy ( 16.669 million tons, down 15.8%) and Mexico (13.713 million tons, down 12.1%).

In general, for 10 months of 2020, 64 countries produced 1 billion 511.043 million tons of steel, which is 2% less than in the same period last year.

In 2019, Ukraine produced 20.8 million tons of steel and took 13th place (in 2018 – 21.1 million tons, 13th place).
