Ukraine will increase steel production by 5% this year

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises are expected to increase steel production by 5% by the end of 2021 compared to 2020 – up to 21.723 million tons.

As reported in the background documents of the Ministry of Economy, which the agency “Interfax-Ukraine” has, the production of general rolled products will also increase by 5% – up to 19.394 million tons, as well as pig iron smelting by 5% – up to 21.521 million tons.

The forecast is based on production indicators for January-May of this year, summarized by the Ukrmetallurgprom association, the ministry specified.

At the same time, the agency’s source added that while maintaining the existing trends in the supply of scrap metal to metallurgical enterprises in 2021 will increase by 13% – up to 3.280 million tons.

Pipe production in 2021 may increase by 9% – up to 931 thousand tons, coke – by 3%, up to 9.928 million tons, refractories – by 7% , up to 235 thousand tons.

As reported, in January-May 2021, Ukraine produced 14.029 million tons of sinter (107.8% against January-May-2020), 4.107 million tons of gross coke 6% moisture content (102.2%), 8.903 million tons of pig iron (109.1%), 8.987 million tons of steel (108.3%), 8.023 million tons rolled products (108%), 0.39 million tons of pipe products (115.8%).

In 2020, 31.91 million tons of sinter were produced (103.3% by 2019), 9.67 million tons of gross coke with 6% moisture content (96.1%), 20.423 million tons of pig iron (101.8%), 20.616 million tons of steel (98.9%), 18.427 million tons of rolled products (101.2%), 0, 85 million tons of pipe products (83.8%).
