An apartment building of the future from Metinvest steel will be built in Mariupol

Steel construction is a global trend. In megalopolises, skyscrapers, stadiums, shopping centers and bridges are being reduced from steel. Thus, in Norway the share of buildings with a steel frame is 48%, in Sweden, Great Britain and the USA – up to 70%. This scale is achieved through multi-storey housing construction. In Ukraine, the introduction of new technologies is only gaining momentum. The first residential multi-apartment steel building will appear in Mariupol next year. It will be built of metal produced at the Mariupol enterprises of Metinvest Group. On October 16, Yuri Ryzhenkov, General Director of Metinvest Group, and Vadim Boychenko, Mayor of Mariupol, laid a capsule for the construction of a new house, unique for our country.

The project of the winners of the Steel Freedom competition for young architects is already being implemented: by order of the municipality in Mariupol, on Amurskaya Street, the construction of an apartment building with the use of steel structures begins. Metinvest Group financed the development of the project, taking into account its location relative to roads and other structures. The company’s investments in the creation of design documentation amount to UAH 2,700,000.

When choosing a technology for building a house, preference was given to prefabricated metal structures, since this can significantly reduce the installation time. At the same time, the reliability and durability of the building are growing, and there are also great opportunities for the use of internal space.

While laying the capsule in the foundation of the future house, Metinvest Group CEO Yuri Ryzhenkov emphasized that it will be modern European-style housing, and Metinvest, together with the Mariupol Development Fund, will manufacture the metal frame structures, thereby significantly reducing the cost per square meter : “Today we are launching the construction of an apartment building made of steel. This is our contribution to affordable housing for Mariupol residents. I am sure that this house will become a landmark for Mariupol, but for the whole country as a whole. Its aesthetic appearance and technical solutions will revolutionize the segment of prefabricated and at the same time very high quality housing. ”

For the construction of a modern house, about 300 tons of metal will be required, which will be produced at the Azovstal iron and steel works and Metinvest Group. The walls will be covered with concrete, which will make it possible to carry out construction and installation work in a short time. In addition, the steel frame can be easily reinforced and reconstructed or disassembled at the end of its life, providing additional economic and environmental benefits.

The project will build an eight-storey house with an area of more than 7 thousand sq. m for 120 one-room and two-room apartments. It will differ from a typical panel housing in its striking appearance. The color scheme, the differences in the number of storeys of the house for two entrances, various windows – all this set the house apart from the rest of the building. Also, the new building will have the highest level of energy efficiency (A +++), and by the time of commissioning, all apartments are being built completely decorated.

According to the mayor of Mariupol, Vadim Boychenko, the purpose of the construction of this building is to provide affordable housing for the Mariupol youth and workers of utilities: “Thanks to our reliable partner – Metinvest Group – large construction starts in Mariupol for the first time in many years. The first steel house in Ukraine will be built here, which is symbolic for the main city of metallurgists. ”

The design life of the building is over 100 years. And the cost of its construction is about UAH 120 million. Metinvest Group is investing UAH 20 million in the manufacture of metal structures for the house, and another UAH 50 million will be allocated from the state and local budgets.

Skyscrapers such as The Shard in London, Garitage Park in Bulgaria and Hudson Yards in Manhattan, Kiev shopping centers Lavina Mall and TSUM have been built using steel produced by Metinvest Group. Stadiums and bridges are being built from Ukrainian steel, including the popular Kiev glass bridge and a new bridge in Genoa, Italy. The Metinvest steel structure protects the Ukrainian one from the fourth nuclear power unit at Chernobyl. Now global trends will be applied in Mariupol.

As a reminder, in December 2018 in Mariupol, with the support of Metinvest Group in the nomination for young architects, the results of the Steel Freedom competition in the category “Creating a residential building project in the segment of affordable housing” were summed up. Beginner architects from different cities of Ukraine presented their projects of residential buildings. The main condition of the competition is the development of a project using load-bearing steel structures.

Also, on October 16, Metinvest Group signed a six-year memorandum of cooperation with the municipality of Mariupol, within the framework of which a complex of city programs will be implemented. One is More Than Steel, a program to build four steel-framed facilities. Steel construction is the most promising direction in modern world practices. A quality result is important for a company. Gr
