Metinvest Group begins construction of the university campus of the first non-state mining and metallurgical university Metinvest Polytechnic in Mariupol. The model of the main building of the future university became the symbol of the start of the project; on July 16, the leaders of the University Group, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as regional and city authorities gathered.
What the town will look like
The university complex will be located in the city center, on Prospect Mira, 105 A, behind Svoboda Square. Now the plot of about 3.5 hectares is empty. And already in 2022, all the infrastructure necessary for learning and a comfortable life for students will appear here – an educational building, a hostel, a sports complex and a park.
For this, the university received the necessary permits to start work. In particular, a land allocation project was approved, a lease agreement for a land plot was signed, a permit for preparatory work and a positive conclusion of a construction expertise for the project were received, as well as documents submitted for obtaining a permit for construction and installation work.
The design project of the educational building was developed by the Dutch bureau MASA Architects by architect Hiroki Matsuura.

The university building will be built using the most modern technologies from Metinvest steel.
A 6-storey dormitory for students with a total area of about 6000 sq. m. will appear on the same site. m. The project provides for a block system of rooms: each block for two or three rooms will have its own kitchen-dining room and bathroom. The hostel also has a gym and fitness room, a medical room and a laundry room.
The campus will have its own sports complex and park, the concept of which is currently being developed. By the way, they will be open to all Mariupol residents.
General Director of Metinvest Group Yuri Ryzhenkov
– Metinvest Polytechnic is an ambitious educational and infrastructure project. For Mariupol it means attracting talented youth to the city, for the country – a new quality of education, for future students – demanded professions and a guarantee of employment. Nothing will prevent us from building a dream university, which has not yet existed in Ukraine. I am sure that the first undergraduate students, whose enrollment is planned in September 2022, will study in a new modern building.
Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet
– This is a very important business step, which shows that today the country does not lag behind in the world, but must follow advanced technologies of the sixth technological order – this is precisely the idea of the development of this university. This is that big step of public-private partnership, which shows that the direction of business today is in education, in science, for the future, for filling all those positive processes and phenomena that should take place in Ukraine with highly professional qualified personnel. I am glad that it is in Donbass, in cooperation with other institutions with the support of such a powerful investor as Metinvest, that this historic event is taking place.
