Electric motors will be installed in the sheet-rolling shop “1700” (LPC-1700). Reconstruction of the mill will expand the sales markets for hot-rolled coils by improving their quality and increasing their weight. In general, Metinvest Group is investing UAH 2.4 billion in the modernization of the workshop.
The supplier of modern technology important for the modernization of the rolling mill-1700 is Primetals Technologies Austria. On the basis of the proposed Austrian engineering specialists, the turnkey project is being implemented by Metinvest-Engineering, acting as a general contractor, designer and equipment supplier.
Thus, electric motors were developed and manufactured specifically for the project of modernization of the rolling mill-1700 by the Shanghai Electric Machinery Company by order of Metinvest-Engineering. Each engine has a capacity of 7 MW and weighs 150 tons.
Construction and assembly work is already underway at the 1700 sheet-rolling shop of the Ilyich Iron and Steel Works. They are carried out according to a unique method – in an operating production under a working line of a rolling mill. This became possible thanks to the original technology: special structures were installed on the mill, which hold the roller tables during the construction of the foundations for a new reversing stand and an intermediate rewinding device. A major overhaul of the workshop is planned for August, and commissioning of the renewed mill will begin in October.
“The new equipment will make it possible to use one reversible mill instead of five old roughing stands. This means that it will be possible to produce hot-rolled coils of greater weight. Now the weight of one roll is from 8 to 13 tons, and it will become almost 3.5 times heavier – 27 tons – and in the future will increase to 32 tons, ”said Taras Shevchenko, General Director of the Ilyich Iron and Steel Works.
The equipment was delivered to the metallurgical plant disassembled in a vacuum package, in the general list of items – more than sixty items. It was transported from the Odessa seaport on 16 long vehicles, including four platforms for the transportation of oversized cargo.
