Metinvest, an international vertically integrated group of metallurgical and mining companies (Metinvest or the Group), is pleased to announce that its Italian rolling mill Metinvest Trametal has been included in the Financial Times’ 2021 European climate leaders list.
The rating includes 300 companies that achieved the largest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in 2014-2019. During the specified period, Metinvest Trametal reduced the main greenhouse gas emissions by 6.8%, which allowed it to take its rightful place in the ranking.
Together with research company Statista, the Financial Times analyzed data on greenhouse gas emissions of 4,000 European companies over six years. Specific carbon dioxide emissions are defined as the ratio of tonnes of CO2 emissions per one million euros of revenue. The ranking included all companies headquartered in one of 33 European countries and with revenues of at least EUR40 million or GBP36 million in 2019.
Commenting on the news, Yuri Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest Group, said:
“Metinvest Trametal’s inclusion in the first Europe’s Climate Leaders rating from the Financial Times is an important event for the Group. As part of our ambitious ESG program, we are looking for ways to further improve the environmental performance of our operations. Over the past decade, we have reduced our gross air emissions by more than 30%. In addition, despite challenging conditions in 2020, we channeled a record US $ 450 million towards environmental projects. ”
Roberto Re, Head of Metinvest Europe, commented:
“We are honored to receive recognition as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders from such reputable expert publications as Financial Times and Statista. Over the years, we have done everything to reduce our carbon footprint and we strive to further develop this achievement. Indicators such as specific greenhouse gas emissions used in this study help us effectively reduce our environmental impact. ”
