Last week, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new pelletizing plant, which is one of the key environmental projects, in which the company is investing about $ 250 million.
The commissioning of a new production facility will allow the gradual decommissioning of two existing sinter shops of the enterprise. As a result, the total volume of emissions will decrease by 78 thousand tons, and the volume of CO2 emissions will decrease by 800 thousand tons per year.
The start of the project on the symbolic laying of the first stone took place with the participation of the management of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and guests of the enterprise: Chairman of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Bondarenko, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Oleksandr Romanishin, Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Vitaliy Nemylotivy, General Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany Dr. Stefan Keill, MPs and representatives of local authorities.
“More than 95% of shares in ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih are owned by the German company ArcelorMittal Duisburg Beteiligungsgeselschaft mbH. The work of the enterprise in Ukraine is a large German investment, and in Germany they closely follow the activities of the Kryvyi Rih plant and all the challenges it faces. I am very pleased to be a participant in the symbolic laying of the first stone of the future pelletizing plant – this is a good example of combining investments in the modernization of the enterprise and the environment. This project deserves special respect, especially now when things are not going very well in metallurgy all over the world. I think this is a test of what the investment climate is like in the country ”, as said by Dr. Stefan Keil.
