Turkey has reduced export steel shipments by 2.8% in 2020, to 20.6 million tons. At the same time, in monetary terms, the decline was 8.2% (to $ 12.7 billion), Anadolu agency reports, citing data from the Turkish Steel Exporters Association.
The main reduction in supplies last year fell on the countries of Europe and North America. At the same time, an increase in shipments was observed to the countries of the Middle East and South America, the Turkish news agency quotes the words of the head of the board of the association Adnan Aslan.
In 2021, the country plans to increase steel exports by 10%, to 23 million tons.
“This year may become quite productive for the steel industry in Turkey. Due to quotas in Europe, import taxes and US trade policy, exports of Turkish steel to these regions in 2021 may not increase. However, we forecast an increase in exports to countries of the Middle East, South America and Africa, “said the head of the Turkish Steel Exporters Association.
