The first residential multi-apartment steel building in Ukraine will appear in Mariupol next year – it will be built of metal produced at the Mariupol enterprises of the Metinvest group.
According to the company’s press release on Monday, October 16, Metinvest CEO Yury Ryzhenkov and Mariupol mayor Vadim Boychenko laid a capsule for the construction of a new house, unique for the country.
It is noted that the steel construction is a global trend. In megacities, skyscrapers, stadiums, shopping centers and bridges are being erected from steel. So, in Norway the share of buildings with a steel frame is 48%, in Sweden, Great Britain and the USA – up to 70%. This scale is achieved through multi-storey housing construction. In Ukraine, the introduction of new technologies is only gaining momentum.
The project of the winners of the Steel Freedom competition for young architects is already being implemented: by order of the municipality in Mariupol on Amurskaya Street, the construction of an apartment building with the use of steel structures begins. Metinvest Group financed the development of the project, taking into account its future location relative to roads and other buildings. The company’s investments in the preparation of project documentation amounted to UAH 2.7 million.
The press release explains that when choosing a technology for building a house, prefabricated metal structures were preferred, since this can significantly reduce the installation time. At the same time, the reliability and durability of the building increase, as well as there are more opportunities for using the internal space.
While laying the capsule in the foundation of the future house, the general director of the group emphasized that it will be modern European-style housing, and Metinvest together with the Mariupol Development Fund, it will manufacture metal frame structures, thereby significantly reducing the cost per square meter.
“Today we are launching the construction of an apartment building made of steel. This is our contribution to affordable housing for Mariupol residents. I am sure that this the house will become a landmark for Mariupol, and for the whole country as a whole. Its aesthetic appearance and technical solutions will revolutionize the segment of pre-fabricated and at the same time very high-quality housing, “the press service of the top manager quotes.
For the construction of a modern house will require about 300 tons of metal, which will be produced at the Azovstal and Ilyich metallurgical plants of the Metinvest group … The walls will be made of reinforced concrete, which will make it possible to carry out construction and installation work in a short time. In addition, the steel frame can be easily reinforced and reconstructed, or disassembled at the end of its operation, which provides additional economic and environmental benefits.
The project will build an eight-story house with an area of more than 7 thousand square meters. m for 120 one-room and two-room apartments. It will differ from a typical panel housing in its striking appearance. Color scheme, differences in the number of storeys of a two-entrance building, different windows – all this will distinguish the house from the rest of the building. Also, the new building will have the highest level of energy efficiency (A +++), and by the time of delivery, all apartments will be 100% finished.
According to the mayor of Mariupol Vadim Boychenko, the purpose of the construction of this house is to provide affordable housing for Mariupol youth and workers of utilities.
“Thanks to our reliable partner – the Metinvest group – a large construction project begins in Mariupol for the first time in many years. It is here that the first steel house in Ukraine will be built, which is symbolic for the main city of metallurgists”, – said the mayor.
The design life of the building is over 100 years, the cost of its construction is about UAH 120 million. Metinvest is investing UAH 20 million in the manufacture of metal structures for the house, and another UAH 50 million will be allocated from the state and local budgets.
Skyscrapers such as The Shard have been erected using steel produced at the Group’s enterprises. London, Garitage Park in Bulgaria and Hudson Yards in Manhattan, Kiev shopping centers Lavina Mall and TSUM. Ukrainian steel is used to build stadiums and bridges, including the popular Kiev glass bridge and a new bridge in Genoa, Italy. Metinvest’s steel structure protects Ukrainians from the fourth nuclear power unit at Chernobyl. Now global trends will be applied in Mariupol.
