MMK im. Ilyich in January-July 2018 increased the production of general rolled products by 6.3% – up to 1.7 million tons

Mariupol Metallurgical Plant named after Ilyich (MMK, Donetsk region) in January-July 2018 increased the production of general rolled products, according to operational data, by 6.3% compared to the same period in 2017 – up to 1.668 million tons.

As the company informed the agency “Interfax-Ukraine”, the production of steel for the specified period increased by 7.8% – up to 1.897 million tons, pig iron – by 18.7%, up to 2.687 million tons.

In July, MMK produced 237 thousand tons of general rolled products, 284 thousand tons of steel, 395 thousand tons of pig iron.

As reported in the report of the Metinvest group for the first half and the second quarter of 2018, in April-June iron smelting at MMK im. Ilyich decreased due to the planned overhaul of blast furnace No. 3 with a duration of 17.5 days.

At the same time, it is noted that over six months the supply of raw materials at the Mariupol metallurgical plants of the group has stabilized, interruptions in which were observed in the same period of the past of the year. Thanks to this, the production of steel and commercial pig iron increased.

As reported, the chairman of the Mariupol City Council Commission on Social Protection, Health and Ecology Maxim Borodin proposed to reduce production at the metallurgical enterprises of the Metinvest Group – MMK im. Ilyich and Azovstal – under unfavorable meteorological conditions in order to improve the ecological situation. At the same time, environmentalists are in favor of toughening penalties for causing damage to the environment.

MMK im. Ilyich is part of the Metinvest Group, the main shareholders of which are SCM Group (71.24%) and Smart Holding (23.76%), jointly managing it.
