[: en] The Pittsburgh Iron and Steel Works United States Steel Corporation (US Steel) has announced the successful launch of its new EAF steelmaking facility at its Fairfield, Alabama plant. EAF patted its first liquid steel heat on 20 October.
The launch of a technologically advanced kiln shop is considered the latest milestone in the company’s previously announced “Best of Both” strategy to deliver maximum value to its customers. The EAF’s steelmaking capacity will amount to 1.6 million tons per year.
Commenting on the development, David B. Berritt, President and CEO of US Steel, said EAF will help the company significantly improve its ability to deliver customer-centric solutions and results. He thanked the team for safely reaching this milestone while overcoming the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, this project will significantly expand its portfolio of steel production projects.
“The company is proud to provide our customers with more sustainable pipe solutions,” said Douglas R. Matthews, senior vice president of US Steel for tubular products.
