The demand for steel in Poland is dictated by the second wave of coronavirus

Economic recovery in Poland continues to slow down. Manufacturing PMI remained unchanged in October, indicating a lack of growth dynamics. There is no doubt that consumer confidence has declined due to the onset of the second wave of coronavirus.

Despite this, hot rolled coil prices in Poland rose for the fifth month in a row in November. The demand for hot-dip galvanized coils is extremely high, delivery dates are indicated until May 2021.

In the local market, supplies of flat products remain very limited, especially for cold rolled products and coated coils. Steelmakers are pursuing an aggressive pricing strategy that will inevitably continue into the next quarter.

In contrast, the situation is calmer in the Polish long products segment. The supply remains sufficient except for wire rod. Sales of low-carbon wire rod have grown significantly over the past month. However, there are concerns about a noticeable decrease in demand in the construction sector and a decrease in the number of new projects.
