Steel company Nucor Corporation of Charlotte, North Carolina highlighted the importance of cleaner, greener steel for the industry.
This was the view expressed by Leon Topalyan, President and CEO, at the recent online Steel Success Strategies Summit hosted by Fastmarkets Metal Bulletin in partnership with World Steel Dynamics. Despite these challenging times for the industry, the global steel industry offers tremendous opportunities for the future.
According to him, companies such as Nucor have been involved in efforts to optimize their operations to capitalize on the future success of the industry. The company is planning nine projects worth more than $ 4 million to expand its capabilities. These improvements will help the company expand its range of value-added products for the automotive market by increasing the efficiency of its business, Topalyan said.
The company is investing $ 1.7 billion in a new Brandenburg steel sheet plant at Buttermilk Falls Industrial Park on the Ohio River. The production capacity of the plant will be about 1.2 million tons of sheet steel per year. It should be noted that the company recently completed the first phase of its expansion project at its Gallatin plant in Ghent, Kentucky.
