World steel production in June 2020

World crude steel production for 64 countries that submitted data to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) amounted to 148.3 million tons in June 2020, which is 7.0% less than in June 2019. Due to the ongoing difficulties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, many of this month’s figures are estimates and may be revised with a production update next month.

Global steel production in the first six months of 2020 was 873.1 million tonnes, down 6.0% from the same period in 2019. Asia produced 642.0 million tonnes of steel in the first half of 2020, which is 3.0% less than in the first half of 2019. In the first half of 2020, the EU produced 68.3 million tonnes of steel, down 18.7% less than in the first half of 2019. North American steel production in the first half of 2020 was 50.2 million tonnes, down 17.6%. compared to the first half of 2019.

In June 2020, 91.6 million tons of steel were produced in China, which is 4.5% more than in June 2019. India produced 6.9 million tonnes of steel in June 2020, 26.3% less than in June 2019. In June 2020, Japan produced 5.6 million tons of steel. decreased by 36.3% compared to June 2019. Steel production in South Korea in June 2020 amounted to 5.1 million tons, which is 14.3% less than in June 2020.
