The EU recently announced a review of the protective measures applied to imports of rolled metal products. The European Steel Coalition is calling on the European Commission (EC) not to renew the measures beyond their expiration in June this year.
The coalition of EU trade associations representing consumers of steel included in recycling included ACEA, APPLiA, CECE, CEMA, CEMEP, CLEPA, Orgalim and WindEurope.
According to steel producers, starting in the second half of 2020, the domestic industry is facing steep increases in steel prices and long delivery times due to lack of supply.
Thus, EU consumers believed that overprotection would only allow the European steel industry to lose its competitiveness, and believed that safeguards for steel products should not be extended and should expire on June 30, 2021, as planned.
