ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, the largest mining and metallurgical enterprise in Ukraine, reports on the production results for 9 months of 2020.
Mauro Longobardi, General Director of ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih:
– In the third quarter of this difficult year, steel production amounted to 1,060 thousand tons, which is 94 thousand tons less than in the second quarter, due to the repair of blast furnace No. 9. Operational reliability, energy efficiency, timely maintenance and process optimization remained the priority areas of the enterprise in order to be cost effective and competitive. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the uncertainty in global markets continues, as well as the vulnerability of the domestic market through unfair trade practices of importers, we, in particular, managed to achieve a record rate of shipments of iron ore concentrate to consumers at the level of 1,065 thousand tons.
To strengthen its position on the market, the company’s team has mastered new types of products: reinforcing bars of classes A1000, A800, ASTM-615 in light-section condition No. 4, corner 75X75X5 in small-section condition No. 2. Work continues on overhaul and modernization of the main technological units. Thus, in September, blast furnace No. 9 casing was repaired successfully, which significantly increased the reliability of the furnace. We have prepared a blast furnace No. 7 for overhaul of the III category, and have begun reconstruction of another sinter machine in the sinter shop No. 2.
We consider the main event of 2020 to be the start of the construction project for a new pelletizing plant, the first symbolic stone of which was laid in October. This is one of the key projects of the environmental component, in which the company is investing about $ 250 million. All investment projects that we are actively working on now are aimed at reducing emissions and bring ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih closer to becoming a “green producer”.
