ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih will reconstruct blast furnace No. 9

This year the metallurgical plant “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” plans to complete key investment projects and implement a number of new ones. They include the replacement of gas cleaning units of the first block of the converter shop (converters No. 1-3), reconstruction of blast furnace No. 9, construction of a new oxygen block and a modern pelletizing plant for the production of 4.5-5 million tons of pellets per year, as well as the introduction of environmental measures to reduce industrial load on the environment.

Reconstruction of blast furnace No. 9, in particular, assumes an increase in its capacity up to 10,000 tons of pig iron per day using existing raw materials and up to 12,500 tons using sinter and pellets. ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plans to produce pellets after the construction of a modern pelletizing plant. The supplier of technology and main equipment for the reconstruction of the blast furnace is CISDI (China).

“The reconstruction of BF-9 will allow us to introduce a new technology in the production of pig iron – we will build a modern blast furnace that will fully comply with environmental standards. Comprehensive modernization of the blast furnace will allow it to efficiently operate for the next 20 years, to achieve the maximum level of use of pulverized coal (up to 200 kilograms per ton of pig iron ), reduce the coke equivalent (total fuel consumption – gas, coal and coke) and, accordingly, reduce the cost of pig iron, “the company said in a statement.

In total, “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” has four blast furnaces. Furnace No. 9 is the largest of them, producing about half of all pig iron at the plant. Its useful volume exceeds 5,000 cubic meters.
