The National Bank of Ukraine set the official rate of 26 hryvnia 93 kopecks per dollar on July 8, which is 20 kopecks less than the rate on July 7. The American currency is worth less than 27 hryvnia for the first time since the announcement of the resignation of ex-NBU head Yakov Smoliy. According to Finance.ua, trading on the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market ended at UAH 26, 91.5–94 kopecks per dollar.
According to experts of the website “Ministry of Finance”, the regulator twice entered the auction, buying out surplus dollar supply – at UAH 26.95 and at UAH 26.90 per unit of American currency. The national currency was in a wide corridor of 26.5-27 hryvnia per dollar for more than two months – from late April to early July. The statement of the ex-NBU head Yakov Smoliy about his resignation through political pressure on him caused an increase in quotations to 27 hryvnia 20 kopecks per dollar and even higher.
During several trading sessions, the situation has stabilized.
