Devaluation continues: NBU weakened the hryvnia by another 22 kopecks against the dollar

The National Bank of Ukraine set the noon on July 20, the reference value of the exchange rate of 27 hryvnia 58 kopecks per dollar, which is 22 kopecks more than the official rate for today. The depreciation of the national currency also continues on the Ukrainian interbank foreign exchange market. According to, as of 12:20, quotes reached 27 hryvnia, 63-65 kopecks per dollar.

“As we warned in our morning forecast, exporters in the market are currently in no hurry to sell currency quickly, holding the main volumes until the maximum growth in quotations. Non-residents entered the trades with the purchase of the dollar through Citibank, which also works against the hryvnia, “experts of the Ministry of Finance website point out. The national currency was in a wide corridor of 26.5-27 hryvnia per dollar for more than two months – from late April to early July.

On July 1, the statement of ex-NBU head Yakov Smoliy about his resignation through political pressure on him caused an increase in quotations to 27 hryvnia 20 kopecks per dollar and even higher. Over the course of several trading sessions, the situation stabilized, but after the appointment of Kirill Shevchenko as head of the NBU, the devaluation of the national currency accelerated.
