Metallurgical plant “Azovstal” (Mariupol, Donetsk region), part of the “Metinvest” group, intends to transfer coke oven batteries No. 3 and 4 to heating with blast furnace gas with the addition of coke oven gas to fully use blast furnace gas in production and reduce consumption natural gas.
According to the documentation at the disposal of the Interfax-Ukraine agency, at present, coke oven batteries in the by-product coke industry use purified coke oven gas, which is produced during coking of coal charge in coke ovens and is purified in the capture and desulfurization shop.
The transition to the use of blast furnace gas with the addition of coke oven gas will make it possible to use blast furnace gas as a power fuel in full at the enterprise. The released coke oven gas will be supplied to the main workshops of the plant and will displace a certain volume of natural gas from the turnover.
Azovstal is part of the Metinvest group, the main shareholders of which is the SCM group (71.24%) and Smart Holding (23.76%), jointly managing the company.
